Danielle grew up in Sussex, Wisconsin, just outside of Milwaukee with her parents, Gino and Renee, and younger brother, Michael. Growing up, Danielle was an avid gymnast, cheerleader and pianist. Her love of science was first inspired by her high school AP Biology teacher, Ms. Bamberg and while volunteering in the pediatrics ward at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

She attended undergrad at the University of Minnesota where she was an NCAA rower during her freshman year of college. Despite the frigid temperatures and at times challenging seasons, Danielle became a loyal Golden Gopher, attending football and hockey games (Ski-U-Mah!). Danielle studied Human Physiology as a pre-med and additionally majored in Spanish Studies, spending a summer abroad in Toledo, Spain.

Danielle continued her tour of the midwest attending medical school at Washington University School of Medicine. While at WashU her interest in Pediatrics and Neonatology was peaked.  She went on to complete her residency at Children’s Hospital Wisconsin before continuing on to Pittsburgh for her Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. In fellowship she researched MALT1 protease activity in endothelial cells and identified its novel role in mast cells in the laboratory of Dr. Linda McAllister. Danielle’s research experience during fellowship coupled with the mentorship of Dr. Gary Silverman, former UPMC Chief of Newborn Medicine, inspired her to embark on a basic science career.

After completing fellowship Danielle accepted a position back at WUSM as an Instructor in Pediatrics in Newborn Medicine. Danielle is currently working in the laboratory of  Dr. Juliane Bubeck-Wardenburg exploring the role of ADAM10 in endothelial cells during infection and inflammation.

In fellowship, Danielle met the love of her life, Ian, while attending a medical school friend’s wedding. Ian and Danielle were recently married in May 2019. Ian is currently serving in the United States Army as a Visual Information Chief stationed at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. In her free time Danielle enjoys spending time reading, baking and with her husband and two dogs, LJ and Diesel. As a couple, Danielle and Ian enjoy traveling the country in search of the best bread pudding.
